Westchester Soccer Club Inaugural Season Recap | Supporters, Community, and Matchday Culture

Looking Back at Westchester Soccer Club’s Inaugural Season

Last year marked the inaugural season of Westchester Soccer Club, with home games played at Mount Vernon Memorial Field. I actually discovered the team randomly through social media. I was scrolling one day and saw that a local club was getting started. At the time, I was simply looking for something local to do. My original motivation was pretty simple. I wanted a place to tailgate, hang out, have a couple of drinks with friends, and take some photos.

That was really how it started for me.

What I did not expect was how meaningful the experience would become over the course of the season.

More Than Just the Results

Westchester SC finished last place in the standings this season, but honestly, the results did not matter much to me. What stood out was the camaraderie and the community that formed around the club. When I look back, I remember the tailgates more than the final scores. I remember the watch parties more than specific plays in specific matches.

It became about the people and the shared experience.

I already follow soccer and support a team overseas, but having a local club to connect with felt different. It felt personal. It felt accessible. There is something special about being able to show up close to home, see familiar faces, and build new friendships around the sport.

Bringing Friends and Building Community

Over the season I brought several friends to games and tailgates, and my girlfriend came out as well. Each time it turned into a great experience. The environment was welcoming and relaxed. People were there to have a good time and support something local.

The club also made a real effort to connect with the community. There were events that featured exotic cars, local food trucks, and brewery collaborations. It never felt like just a match day. It felt like a local event every time.

Becoming the Official Unofficial Photographer

Somewhere along the way, I became the official unofficial photographer of the supporters group, the 914th Infantry. That happened naturally. I was already bringing my camera, shooting photos, and recording content. The group embraced it and I had a lot of fun documenting the supporters section.

Photographing the chants, the smoke, the scarves, and the celebrations gave me even more motivation to keep coming back. It added purpose to my match days and let me contribute in my own way through my photography and content creation.

Looking Ahead to Season Two

Overall, the first season felt like the beginning of something. A foundation year. A chance for a community to come together around a new local club. From my perspective, it was a success because of the people and the atmosphere that developed around it.

If you are thinking about attending a game or joining the supporters group, I would absolutely recommend it. It is a strong community environment filled with people who just want to enjoy the sport and have a good time.

I am very pleased with how the season turned out and I am genuinely looking forward to season two with Westchester Soccer Club. I will definitely have my camera ready.
