A Beautiful Night at Prom on the Long Island Sound
Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph a prom at the Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club, and it was one of those venues that immediately makes an impression when you arrive.
Tucked away along the waterfront, the venue offers a secluded setting that feels removed from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. As the evening progressed, the sunset painted the sky with incredible colors over what I believe was the Long Island Sound. It created the perfect backdrop for portraits and gave the entire evening a special atmosphere.
One of my favorite features of the property was the gazebo. It provided a beautiful location for photos and quickly became one of my go-to spots throughout the evening. Another outdoor area overlooked the water and featured boats in the background, creating a classic coastal scene that worked perfectly for both individual portraits and group photos.
There was also a path running along the side of the venue overlooking the club's private beach. This became another favorite location of mine. The combination of the beach, water, and evening light made for some memorable images and gave us a variety of backgrounds without ever having to leave the property.
One thing that surprised me about this prom was how the students arrived. When I was growing up, everyone seemed focused on renting expensive stretch limousines for prom night. This group arrived on coach buses, which honestly felt like a much more practical and enjoyable approach. The students arrived together, excited and ready to celebrate the evening.
And they certainly showed up in style.
The students put together some incredible outfits and brought great energy from the moment they arrived. They were enthusiastic about taking photos, spending time with friends, and making memories. As the night went on, the dance floor stayed packed and the excitement never seemed to slow down.
A big part of that energy came from Richard of RNH_ENT, who served as the DJ for the evening. He did an excellent job keeping everyone engaged and on their feet throughout the night. Every time I looked toward the dance floor, it was full of students dancing and having a great time.
The venue also delivered when it came to the food. Dinner featured prime rib, mashed potatoes, and string beans, followed by an ice cream bar that was a huge hit with the students. With toppings like sprinkles, gummy bears, caramel sauce, and more, it was the perfect dessert station for a celebration like prom.
The teachers and staff also deserve recognition. Throughout the evening, they were friendly, organized, and focused on making sure the students had everything they needed to enjoy the night safely. Their efforts helped create an environment where everyone could relax and have fun.
The little details also added to the experience. Guests were treated to fun party favors, including light-up glasses, glow bracelets, and commemorative Prom 2026 cups. These small touches helped make the evening feel even more special and gave students something to remember the night by.
As a photographer, it's always rewarding to work events where the venue, staff, entertainment, and guests all come together to create a great experience. This prom was one of those nights. Between the beautiful waterfront setting, the incredible sunset, the excitement of the students, and the attention to detail throughout the event, it was a pleasure to be a part of and document.
Congratulations to the Class of 2026, and thank you for allowing me to capture a small part of such an important milestone.
