Undiscovered Realm Comic Con 2026: A Weekend of Cosplay, Collectibles, and Great Memories
For the third year in a row, I attended Undiscovered Realm Comic Con at the Westchester County Center in White Plains, New York. Each year brings something different, and 2026 was no exception. This year's event was especially memorable because I was joined by my girlfriend, Melody, and my 12-year-old nephew, who was attending his very first comic convention.
Day One: A First Comic Con Experience
Saturday was all about experiencing the convention together. My nephew had been looking forward to the event for weeks. Like many young collectors, he had saved up his own money ahead of time and came with a plan. His goal was to find Pokémon cards and a Demon Slayer statue, and by the end of the day, he successfully purchased both.
Watching him explore the vendor floor was one of the highlights of the weekend. Every aisle seemed to have something that caught his attention, whether it was anime merchandise, collectibles, artwork, or trading cards. Seeing the excitement on his face reminded me of why events like this are so much fun. They're not just about buying things. They're about discovering new interests, meeting people with similar passions, and creating memories.
As for Melody and me, we spent much of the day walking the convention floor, taking in the atmosphere, and capturing photos. Rather than focusing exclusively on cosplay, I found myself drawn to the interactions between vendors and attendees. There were countless moments of people excitedly discussing collectibles, searching for rare items, and simply enjoying the experience.
The After Party at Yonkers Brewing Company
After the convention wrapped up for the day, we headed over to Yonkers Brewing Company for the official Comic Con after party.
The evening featured performances from actor and musician Thomas Ian Nicholas, known for his roles in American Pie and Rookie of the Year, along with Wheatus, the band best known for their hit song "Teenage Dirtbag."
The atmosphere was electric throughout the night. Adding to the excitement was Game Five of the NBA Finals, where the New York Knicks clinched the championship. The crowd's energy was already high from the live music, but it reached another level as fans celebrated the Knicks' victory. The performers did a fantastic job keeping the momentum going and creating a fun environment for everyone in attendance.
Day Two: Returning With a Camera
On Sunday, I returned to the convention on my own with a different goal in mind: photography.
While I captured plenty of images throughout the weekend, Sunday allowed me to focus more on experimenting with my lighting setup. I used a Godox V1 Speedlight handheld with a remote trigger, and I was extremely happy with the results.
The lighting inside the Westchester County Center created a unique atmosphere. The ceiling lights added depth and character to the environment, and combining that ambient light with flash helped create images that really stood out. The flash allowed me to separate subjects from the background while still preserving the mood of the venue.
Looking back at the photos afterward, I found myself wishing I had started using the flash earlier in the weekend. The results exceeded my expectations and gave me some of my favorite images from the event.
Final Thoughts
Undiscovered Realm Comic Con continues to be one of my favorite local events to attend. Whether you're a longtime collector, a cosplay enthusiast, an anime fan, or someone attending their very first convention, there's something for everyone.
This year's event was memorable not only because of the photos I captured, but because I got to share the experience with family. Watching my nephew enjoy his first convention and find the items he had been saving for made the weekend even more rewarding.
After three consecutive years attending Undiscovered Realm Comic Con, I can confidently say it's an event I look forward to every year. The community, creativity, and passion on display make it a worthwhile experience, and I'm already looking forward to returning in 2027.
